Father Arnaldo Bazán: 1935-2024

July 30, 2024 Comments 5 comments

I have searched for an update and a way to contact Fr. Arnaldo Bazán for a few years with out success. Both peacefully and sadly, I finally found an update from the Archdiocese of Miami. On March 11, 2024 Fr. Arnaldo Bazán died at the age of eighty-nine. Fr. Bazán was the last surviving priest exiled from Cuba aboard the Covadonga in 1961. In high school I had the opportunity to interview Fr. Bazán about his experience.

I spent many summers learning about the Mass and my faith from Fr. Arnaldo when he visited our community. I will always remember the cheek pinches and pats. Your respect for Mary, dinner with the Teixeiras, memories of the Sacraments my family have received with you as our priest, and your help in my journey to fall in love our Lord in the Holy Mass are among my favorite memories of our times together. I will keep you in my prayers!

May your soul rest in peace!

J.M.J.

    WE LOVED HIM MUCH.
HE WAS LIKE A BROTHER TO ME.
MANY TIMES CAME TO EL PASO AND STAYED IN OUR HOME.
SAW HIM LAST TIME IN SEPTEMBER 2018 WHEN HE CAME TO VISIT AND STAYED WITH US HERE AT HOUSTON.
I, WEM WILL MISS HIM LOTS.

He often spent summers in the small town I am from in Florida. Fr. Arnaldo would come for dinner and spend time with us after daily Mass. He taught me a lot. I miss him dearly.

He was an incredible teacher! I have many found memories of him and he is one of the main reasons I fell in love with the Mass at a young age!
